13:5014:50

Visit Tateyama Museum and Ashikuraji Oyama Shrine Chugu

Tateyama has something to be noted in Japan‘s mountain worship because of the special content of the mountain worship formed by its unique landscape such as the mountain range and Jigokudani. From the middle of the Heian period, the Tateyama religion was associated with the hell religion, and it was thought that ghosts from all over Japan gathered here. Furthermore, during the Kamakura period, the belief in the other world where hell and the Pure Land coexist was formed in the mountains where the Amida Nyorai Pure Land was developed on this mountain. Behind the establishment of the Tateyama faith is the landscape of hell where the terrible sight of the explosion crater of the steam explosion 10,000 years ago was seen, and the sight of a wide variety of alpine plants blooming in summer on Mt. Jodo and Murododaira. There is a landscape of pure soil. In addition, Tateyama, a 3,000-meter-class steep mountain nature, and the flora and fauna that make up that nature, such as Abies mariesii and Tateyama cedar, which were shaped by a craftsman called snow and had a unique appearance, were greatly involved.

15:10 - 16:00

Visit Tateyama Caldera Sabo Museum

Tateyama Caldera is one of the largest collapsed areas in Japan with its unique nature due to volcanic activity and erosion. Located on the south side of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route and the Midagahara Plateau, it is surrounded by steep cliffs and a rough collapsed area stands out. The museum widely introduces the relationship between people and nature under the two themes of "Nature and History of Tateyama Caldera" and "Sabo". At the indoor exhibition hall, you can experience and learn about the Tateyama Caldera and Sabo with diorama, images, and experimental equipment. Disasters were caused by Tateyama Caldera and sabo to prevent them. Would you like to know another appearance of beautiful Tateyama?

Murododaira, the center of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, at an altitude of 2,450m. It is crowded with many tourists as a base for climbing and sightseeing in Tateyama and Mt. Tsurugi, and you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of each season from April to the end of November. It is also a grouse habitat designated as a national special natural monument, and if you are lucky you can meet it! Murododaira, with its gentle slopes, has a walking path, which is ideal for hiking. There are plenty of walking spots such as the azure lake “Mikurigaike”, which is said to be “the most beautiful volcanic lake in the Northern Alps”. One of them, “Tateyama Murodo”, is the oldest mountain lodge in Japan. The wooden building built in one section of Murodo, which is often used in the mountain climbing course of Tateyama, was actually used as an accommodation facility (mountain lodge) until the 1980s. A new mountain cottage was built in the adjacent land along with the designation as a cultural property  and is now preserved as an important cultural property of the country. “Murodo” is a hall where trainees stay and pray. It was used as a facility for people of the Tateyama faith to stay on the way to Oyama Shrine on the summit of Mt. Oyama and to offer prayers. The existing building was reconstructed in 1726 by the Kaga Domain. The long history of more than 290 years can be seen from the style of the building. Please quickly visit when you take a walk in Murodo.
Note: Lunch is not included, please have lunch by yourself at the restaurant or cafe in Murodo Terminal.
